Un Mal Nommé CIVILISATION

Comme son nom l’indique (du latin: civitas,-tatis la cité ; civis,-is le citoyen) la civilisation est une affaire de ville, de cité. Et qu’est-ce-qu’une cité si ce n’est un village exagérément grand par rapport à la capacité de charge de son environnement ? Pour soutenir une telle concentration d’humains, il faut donc trouver une astuce pour tricher et contourner les lois de la nature. Pour ce faire, la civilisation utilise l’agriculture. Un procédé qui consiste à raser l’écosystème existant et à le remplacer par une seul plante ou plus exactement une poignée de plantes apparentées. Ce procédé provoque la dégradation du sol et son érosion progressive.

Au début, le civilisé parvient à produire d’avantage de nourriture qu’il n’en n’avait besoin. Il put ainsi constituer des réserves et commercer avec les éleveurs nomades et les tribus sauvages. Ce surplus permit aussi une spécialisation des humains civilisés (charpentiers, scribes, etc…). Mais rapidement, comme c’est toujours le cas quand un animal est en présence d’une abondance alimentaire, le civilisé s’est multiplié et les surplus ont fondu. Il dut alors intensifier et étendre toujours d’avantage son astuce. Au prix de toujours plus d’effort et de travail. Ainsi commença la grande fuite en avant de la civilisation.

Il s’ensuivit une guerre effrénée contre l’écosystème, menée par l’homme civilisé pour augmenter sa production. Il doit toujours augmenter les surfaces agricoles. Il doit constamment retourner la terre pour empêcher la nature de restaurer les terres dévastés. Cela demande un investissement important de temps mais surtout d’énergie. Dans un premier temps, ce travail fut effectué à la main. Puis on fit appel à la force animale pour éventrer la terre. Il fallu alors nourrir et entretenir ces bêtes, ce qui impliqua un surplus de travail. On creusa aussi des canaux d’irrigations et de drainage qu’on dut entretenir. Eventuellement, on remplaça les animaux par des tracteurs, des moissonneuses, etc. On créa des engrais chimiques pour compenser artificiellement à la dégradation du sol. Augmentant de plus en plus la complexité de la civilisation.

Cet accroissement de complexité a bien sur un coût, il signifie toujours d’avantage de gens attachés à la gestion de cette complexité et à des tâches autres que la production d’aliment. Cela signifie qu’au fur et à mesure que cette complexité augmente, le retour sur l’investissement diminue jusqu’à ce que le retour devienne négatif. Ce phénomène est connu sous le nom de «Loi des retours décroissants», et cela implique qu’inévitablement toute civilisation doit s’effondrer quand elle atteint ce point de développement. A ce stade, un problème somme toute banal peut les anéantir. Car le seul moyen de résoudre les problèmes dans une civilisation implique un accroissement de la complexité.

Toute les civilisations ont disparu à cause de ce phénomène de retour décroissant. La civilisation actuelle ne s’est pas encore effondrée lorsqu’elle manqua de bois et devint incapable d’augmenter sa production alimentaire parce que deux évènements lui permirent de continuer son stratagème agricole et énergétique. Elle découvrit l’Amérique et passa à l’âge du carbone en se tournant vers le charbon. L’Amérique lui apporta de nouvelles terres mais aussi de nouvelles plantes domestiques ce qui mis fin à des épisodes de famine récurrents. Le charbon remplaça le bois qui manquait cruellement. Devant les coûts croissants du bois et la densité énergétique plus grande du charbon. On finit par se résigner à l’utiliser de plus en plus. Le charbon étant disponible en quantité et à bas prix il devint le moteur de la première révolution industrielle, qui conduisit à une explosion de la complexité comme jamais auparavant et poussa plus loin l’explosion démographique et la fuite en avant des civilisés et la destruction des écosystèmes.

Puis arriva le pétrole, dont l’énergie était encore plus concentrée que celle du charbon, tout en étant infiniment plus versatile. Et la fuite en avant continua de plus belle, augmentant toujours d’avantage la complexité. Une complexité exponentielle alimentée par la consommation toujours plus grande d’énergie fossile. Or voilà que les énergies fossiles sont non renouvelables (sauf sur des temps géologiques). Et il se trouve que nous avons atteint à toute fin pratique le point où la moitié du pétrole a été pompé. Il en résulte selon une loi géologique implacable que la production va progressivement décroitre, ce qui va obliger la civilisation à trouver une nouvelle astuce pour continuer sa fuite en avant. Et ce, très très rapidement. Le gaz, le charbon, et l’uranium sont dans une situation comparable, leurs pics d’extraction suivra sous peu. En Amérique du nord, le gaz est déjà en déclin et on doit en importer à grand frais (accroissement de la complexité).

Le pétrole et les énergies fossiles (incluant l’uranium) est un parfait exemple de la loi sur les retours décroissants. Au début, on a pompé le pétrole facile, il sortait même tout seul de terre. Pour chaque joule investie on en récupérait 100 voir plus. Mais au fil du temps, ces gisements s’épuisèrent et on se tourna vers des sources plus difficiles et il fallu investir plus d’énergie pour le récupérer. On passa à 50:1 puis avec le temps à 10:1. On en arriva à l’extraction des sables bitumineux dont le retour sur investissement est très faible 3:1 à 2:1 tout au plus.

Récemment, sous un prétexte écologique, on se tourna vers les agrocarburants et le retour sur l’investissement devint négatif. Car l’agriculture est un procédé qui consiste depuis longtemps à transformer une importante quantité d’énergie non-alimentaire en une petite quantité d’énergie alimentaire. Cela à commencé quand la force animale a remplacé la force humaine. Les boeufs mangent plus d’énergie qu’ils permettent d’en produire, ils importaient pour ainsi dire l’énergie des prairies incultes par le biais du foin mangé par les bêtes. L’avènement du tracteur et de l’énergie fossile creusa l’écart, si bien qu’aujourd’hui on en est à 1 joules récoltée pour 10 dépensées. Mais la production a augmenté, l’agriculture est un système consistant à utiliser la force brute, au contraire de l’horticulture. Les pesticides, les herbicides, les engrais, les machines, tous dépendent d’une consommation incommensurable d’énergie fossile. Non seulement l’agrocarburant est-il un retour négatif sur l’énergie mais pour cette raison aussi d’un point de vue environnemental.

Le piège des rendements décroissants se referme donc sur la civilisation. Mais cette civilisation, contrairement aux autres, sera la dernière car elle a épuisé toute les ressources minérales accessibles par des moyens humains. Les ressources qui nourrissent la bête immonde, ne peuvent être obtenus qu’aux frais d’un complexe industriel devenu insoutenable. Les sol épuisés, minéralisés, morts et infertiles ne pourront plus produire assez de nourriture pour relancer une civilisation. Il faudra des millénaires pour que les sols redeviennent fertiles. C’est la théorie d’Olduvaï dans toute sa beauté.

Par ailleurs, pour améliorer la situation, les dommages à l’environnement et au climat feront disparaître les conditions ayant permis l’émergence de l’agriculture. D’autant plus, que le réchauffement du climat va recevoir un coup de fouet après l’effondrement de la civilisation par la suppression de l’Effet de voile planétaire. L’intense activité industrielle et la combustion des énergies fossiles relâchent dans l’atmosphère de fines particules appelées aérosols. Ces aérosols provoquent la réflexion d’une part importante du rayonnement solaire vers l’espace. Dans les années 1970 on assista à un refroidissement du climat qui provenait de cet effet. Mais plus tard, les quantités de CO2 dans l’atmosphère permirent à l’effet de serre de supplanter l’effet de voile.

Qu’adviendra-t-il alors ? La civilisation implosera et les civilisés avec elle, il n’y a aucun doute la-dessus. La destruction des écosystèmes étant si grande, leurs capacités de charge est bien plus faible que celles qui existaient au néolithique, lorsque tout ça débuta. Par conséquent, la population humaine, comme toute population animale qui dépasse la capacité de son environnement à le nourrir, crèvera de faim et de maladie. Jusqu’à ce que le nombre d’humains soit approprié aux ressources. En d’autre termes, au moins 95% de la population mondiale est condamnée à brève échéance. Les chances de survie décroissant dramatiquement avec la densité de population. Les 5% seront presque exclusivement ceux que le civilisé appelle avec mépris et dégoût: «sauvage», «barbare» ou «primitif».

Afin de voir - et le plus tôt sera le mieux - un jour disparaître cette idéologie, et cette culture putride et omnicidaire qui en est 'née', il y a entre autres le travail de démantèlement, d'annihilation de cette gigantesque tumeur aux multiples excroissances, et il y a aussi bien sûr celui de construction, de création de nouvelles/anciennes manières de vivre sensées, pragmatiques et viables.

Bon, j'ai - pas très subtilement j'en conviens - usé de la première règle en matière de propagande, qui dit que si vous pouvez leur passer 'subtilement' votre ou vos prémisses sous leur nez, vous les avez. Donc, la prémisse que je ne tiens pas à vous passer sous le nez est que cette civilisation, cette machine de mort doit disparaître. Et comme sous-prémisse(?), j'ai ajouté que le plus tôt sera le mieux. Si vous êtes d'accord, tant mieux. Sinon...et bien, bienvenue quand-même.

Je veux me concentrer présentement sur l'aspect , 'construction, création de manières de vivre viables'. C'est que je pense qu'en plus d'être absolument nécessaire à la survie de l'espèce humaine, il sera de plus en plus difficile de soi-disant 'subvenir' à nos besoins via ce 'Trou Noir' qui est entrain de Tout siphonner sur son passage. Et donc, de développer d'autres manières de vivre, maintenant - viables et donc sensées cette fois ci, du moins pour ceux qui ne pratiquaient pas déjà un tel mode de vie, afin de subvenir à tous nos besoins, que ce soit de nous nourrir, loger, vêtir, guérir, protéger, éduquer, et ainsi de suite - sera très utile, et ce , assez vite je pense.

"THE FINAL ARGUMENT I'VE OFTEN HEARD FROM PACIFISTS IS THAT
violence never accomplishes anything. This argument, even more than any of the others, reveals how completely, desperately, and arrogantly out of touch many dogmatic pacifists are with physical, emotional, and spiritual reality.

If violence accomplishes nothing, how do these people believe the civilized conquered North and South America and Africa, and before these Europe, and before that the Middle East, and since then the rest of the world? The indigenous did not and do not hand over their land because they recognize they're faced with "a high stage of social and cultural development." The land was (and is) seized and the people livivng there were (and are) slaughtered, terrorized, beaten, into submission. The tens of millions of Africans killed in the slave trade would be surprised to learn their slavery was not the result of widespread violence. The same is true is true for the millions of women burned as witches in Europe. The same is true for the billions of passenger pigeons slaughtered to serve this economic system. The millions of prisoners stuck in gulags here in the U.S. and elsewhere would be astounded to discover that they can walk away anytime they want, that they are not in fact held there by force.

Do the pacifists who say this really believe that people all across the world hand over their resources to the wealthy because they enjoy being impoverished, enjoy seeing their lands and their lives stolen - sorry, I guess under this formulation they're not stolen but received gracefully as gifts - by those they evidently must perceive as more deserving? Do they believe women submit to rape just for the hell of it, and not because of the use or threat of violence?

One reason violence is used so often by those in power is because it works. It works dreadfully well.

And it can work for liberation as well as subjugation. To say that violence never accomplishes anything not only degrades the suffering of those harmed by violence but it also devalues the triumphs of those who have fought their way out of abusive or exploitative situations. Abused women or children have killed their abuseers, and become free of his abuse.
(Of course, often then the same selective law enforcement agencies and courts that failed to stop the original abuse now step in to imprison those who sent violence the wrong way up the hierarchy). And there have been many indigenous and other armed struggles for liberation that have succeeded for shorter or longer periods..."

I come from a Family, some call our Family a gang, but either way, I come from People who always exercise. We have to. Due to the implosion of the Lakota Oyate, we grew up among a constant battle, some called it a feud.

All I know is it is more important than ever to be eating healthy and exercising. I work out every day. This beast known as america cannot last much longer. Indigenous Peoples know it will last not even 4 more years. Many "activists" do not know how reliant, dependent, and adherent to the system they really are. they are soft and not hard. They are takers and not makers. They are part of the system. We currently have no authority as Indigenous Peoples. Our Elders have been erased. We have olders now with no accumulated Wisdom.

Me though, I aint playing. I eat simply. I live simply. I am hard. I am this way because of the People I have been able to be around, my Relatives. They have taught me much. Whether winged, crawling, four legged or two, I have been listening. There are some of us left. There is still Lakota Oyate Ki. We shall remain as inherent to this Homeland and Grandmother of ours as ever.

For me, the battle I grew up in never ceased. My contemporaries of my Youth lay dead because they lived it all the way to the death. This is the example I follow. I shall consistently and constantly remain a living example of these ways walking.

Power is sometimes defined as strength and speed combining as relatives. Another kind of Power is the innate and inherent Power of our Roots as Indigenous Peoples.

"Despite living thousands of kilometers away from industry, Greenlandic Inuit have some of the world’s highest levels of industrial pollutants in their bodies. Air currents carry the compounds north. The chemicals fall to the Earth in the cold Arctic temperatures where they contaminate soil, water and wildlife. The Inuit's exposure to industrial pollution -- mostly through their food -- is believed to be harming their reproductive, endocrine and nervous systems.

POPs are considered some of the most dangerous chemicals in the world because they are widespread, long lived, collect in fat and are associated with cancer and other diseases in wildlife and humans. Most have been banned from production/use through a global POPs treaty, but exposure continues because they persist in the environment.

In this study, scientists measured several industrial pollutants -- including DDT and PCBs -- in blood samples collected through the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program (AMAP). DNA methylation was determined in the same blood samples. The influence of age, smoking and other variable were taken into account in the study.

The researchers examined 71 blood samples from people between the ages of 19 and 67. The POPs levels measured in the samples "rank among the highest in the world," according to the authors."

Soon enough, I am going to die.

You know what? The same is true for you.

Whether we fight back or not will not change this.
We can't fight death. We can't control death. We can't predict the manner or time of death.
I'm not arguing fate here; fuck fate. I'm defining, and accepting death. I will die.
You will die. Every creature on Earth will die (though preferably not all at the same
time). Death is a part of life.

Fear of death is not safety. Fear of death is fear of life. Hiding from death is hiding from
life.

We can't fight death either individually or collectively. What we can do is fight those who
worship death. They don't understand death; death is a part of life - and they hate life.
We can fight them, and we can destroy that which they worship, because that which they
worship is not truly death. Death is a new phase of life, it is a continuation. Death gives
birth to new life. Those who worship death and despise life do not truly understand death. They
don't truly worship death. What they worship is sterilization.

Sterilization is the extinguishing of life. It is the final, permanent end of the processes
and transformations of life. It is entirely different than death. Sterilization
does not give birth to new life, as death does. Sterilization is something to be feared;
death is not. Death is inevitable; sterilization is not. Sterilization is the enemy of life.
Death is a part of life.

You will die. I will die. We will both die; perhaps we will do so together. This cannot be
changed; and really only those who fear life would want to change it. Fear of death is
fear of life. We will all die. We need to accept this; we need to understand it. In order
to truly do what must be done in the interest of continuing life on this planet – we need to
be OK with death.

We cannot, and should not fight death. We can, and should fight sterilization. We will be
much more capable of doing so once we release our irrational fear of death is in fact
irrational; and ultimately - harmful. Death is not coming for you. In a sense, it's
already arrived. It's been your companion all your life. Death makes it possible for you to
feed and clothe yourself. You could not exist without it. You and death are partners in
survival. What we need to do, is unite with death. We need to honor our side of our
agreement with death. We and death are natural allies. So long as death is with us,
sterilization - the real enemy - has not taken place; and our needs can be provided for.

So long as the worshippers of sterilization have succeeded in making us fear death; our
natural ally, we will fear ourselves, our own lives. We will remain ignorant of the deal we
make with death when we consume the flesh of another. We will be afraid to live our lives
as we otherwise would because of an irrational fear of something that cannot be separate from ourselves.

This isn't a suicide note; it's simply a resolution. It's a resolution to stop living my
life in an insane, poisonous way, and to begin living my life as the true gift that it is.
The circle of life has been gracious enough to make an investment in me. Many
investments, really. Will I allow myself to remain insane and ignorant and be afraid of that
which is a part of me? Will I continue to live in fear of that which made my life possible
in the first place and makes the continuation of my life possible? My life will not end when
I die; it will simply change forms - as it has been doing since the moment I was born -
since billions of years before that, really. When we look back at the history of life,
in fact – it becomes clear that death has been and continues to be responsible for the
growth and development of the community of life. By denying and fearing death, which
results in our failing to do our duty - we put a stop to that process of growth.

Death is not the extinguishing of life; it is a transformation of life – it is death that is
responsible for the diversity of life, and through diversity comes strength. Death makes
a deal with us when we consume the flesh of another; it offers us life to be
transformed into the continuation – and expansion - of our own lives and the lives of our
offspring. It expects of us the same that it expects of all the diverse creatures that it
creates; it expects us to serve life. Since we ourselves are living things and all living
things depend on other living things in order to continue living, this has never been a
conflict of interest. It is only now that the worshippers of sterilization have encouraged
and conditioned us to fear our long-time friend - our greatest ally - that a conflict of
interest has arisen.

The worshippers of sterilization have caused us to regard something that is a part of
ourselves and very familiar to us as separate, mysterious and evil. When we die, our
lives will not be extinguished; we will live on in equally enjoyable and fulfilling
forms of existence through the circle of life (perhaps more enjoyable and fulfilling if we
do our part now to assist the growth and development of the community of life). Our lives
will not be extinguished, they will be transformed.
If on the other hand, we continue to allow the worshippers of sterilization to continue
sterilizing our environments, then eventually our lives and our lineage and all that has
been invested in both will be extinguished as well. Our lives will truly end - something that
would not happen if we were simply to die. We need to fight this. We need to make the
distinction between friends and enemies and we need to understand and develop healthy
relationships with our friends and in so doing empower ourselves to face the real enemy.
I am your friend. Let's fight our enemies together. If we die it will be OK. Death is our
friend too. If we die serving life, as we were meant to it may even be an enjoyable,
fulfilling experience.

If we allow our fear of death to continue to prevent us from fighting, we will surely be
sterilized; probably sooner rather than later. Our lives will be extinguished, and that will
not be OK. We will be fucked and we will never ever again have a chance to
participate in the great circle of life and death. We are the generation that gets the
chance to make this decision; we’re the only ones who are here. We can’t shoulder those who
came before us or those who will come after us with the responsibility to save the circle
of life; because those who came before us have become us. We are them; any notion of them as
separate from ourselves is an illusion; the fabrication of a nonexistent ghost – a
phantom: a haunting. They are not outside us, they have become us. Their responsibility
is our responsibility. And of course, we can’t shift responsibility to those who come
after us, because if we don’t get over our ignorant, harmful fear of death and stand up
now to make sure the circle of life continues, then there won’t be anybody or anything
coming after us anyway. This is it, it’s all or nothing. Now is the time for action. Serve
life by living yours. No more excuses.

Let's let go of our irrational fears and begin to live as we were meant to.

FAKE “OBASMS” ABOUND WHILE U.S. PRESIDENT TRIES TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY

MNN. Feb. 5, 2009. U.S. President Obama says he’s going to stimulate the Americans’ economy to stop its dive to oblivion. They’re looking to him for “obasms” because they don’t know how to save summer’s abundance to get them through the winter. No matter how hard he tries, nothing’s coming up! Like drug addicts hooked on dope, they want another fix. They think they can’t survive without it.

Obama is facing a formidable government bureaucracy that’s controlled by a few “banksters” [bankers and gangsters]. The hierarchical system has jobs for the chosen few arranged in a pyramidal chain of command that is imbedded in every private and public financial, educational, political, economic, trade, military, pharmaceutical and social institution. Far from being “public servants” they’re on the take and basically never do anything useful for anyone. They grab as much money and benefits as possible and do almost no work. In fact, the less they do, the more likely they are to be promoted.

At Indian Affairs offices in Ottawa, their desks are shiny and their feet are sitting on top of them. In the meantime the people they are supposed to serve are living in forced squalor. We’ve seen these bureaucratic bloodsuckers sit and listen to Indigenous people explain their dire situations in some isolated community. They’ve travelled from far away to ask for help. After hearing about the horrific situation, the bureaucratic leech puts his hands behind his head and says, “We can’t help you. You have to go see somebody else”. This is known as “passing the buck” to someone else until they wear them out and they go home with nothing.
Our suggestion to Mr. Obama is to dump this scrounging class system. These freeloading gate keepers’ jobs are to sit behind the desk and take some of the cream as it passes by them. In the end, they’ve done a good job if they’ve made sure that the money meant for the people or program gets almost nothing. Indian Affairs is loaded with non-natives who are trained in that colonial system.

The ground under the feet of emperor Obama is shaking. If he wants to get more money to the people, he should get rid of this meat grinding slaughterhouse. These plunderers who were sent to Turtle Island by the European elite came here to kill us off so they could steal everything that wasn’t nailed down. 115 million of us were killed off. The elite who run these systems have to change or adapt to the new reality, and not just by getting rid of their babysitter, cleaning lady, chauffer or maid. The conditions they have created are critical everywhere. The mobs are getting hysterical. People are resisting and reacting worldwide. Some think the elites are going to run. Where? To outer space? Good riddance!
This is how this pecking order system works. At the top of the triangle sits the boss who got there by hook or by crook. So the meanest scoundrel sits at the top, has long lunches, plays golf and hollers at people sometimes. Below him/her is a huge pyramid of people who “yes” the boss but call him down at the water cooler. The more people he has working under him, the more money he gets. The one with an empire of 100,000 employees is paid millions upon millions. The one with only two under him gets a much lower pay. So it pays to perpetuate the empire with more people in it even if they do nothing. After all, they have a direct line to siphon money out of the taxpayers’ pockets.

Let’s say that the government has budgeted $100,000 to fix a bad water plant problem in an isolated Indigenous community. This plant was designed by the bureaucrats and was meant to cause sicknesses and even death. They want to move these people because there is gold or diamonds underneath them or fresh water nearby to export to the U.S. 70% of Indigenous communities have toxic drinking water not fit for human consumption. This is no accident. Do you really belief the Canadian engineers are that incompetent?

The federal, provincial, municipal and band council hierarchies all take their cuts for “administration” all the way down to the community level. In the end there is almost nothing left to fix the problem. So another proposal goes up the chain, the bureaucrats do the same end run and pocket more money. They make even more by prolonging negotiations, court cases, licensing fees and making sure it doesn’t get resolved, because it wasn’t meant to. The people get warn down and are forced to make a deal that doesn’t benefit them. In the meantime, the band or tribal councilors who work with the banksters live like Middle Eastern sheiks, while crumbs trickle down to the people. If the problem was fixed, the whole hierarchy would fall down like a house of cards. Some bureaucrats might even lose their jobs, we hope. They fight like rats to keep their positions because they’re incompetent. Who else would hire them?
The whole set up of lazy bums depends on this system. It’s never meant to serve the people. In November 2008 the heads of the Wall Street financial hierarchies were the first to pocket $750 billion from the U.S. Treasury. Everyone appeared to oppose this package. The nation might have been threatened with martial law or something else that forced Congress to go along with it.

To save money and stimulate the economy, demolish the hierarchy. Then bring the relationship between the tax dollar and the grassroots closer together. Instead of getting one dollar out of $100, $95 will go where it’s needed.

Let’s b%&@!h slap these parasites in these bureaucracies who sit at desks behind glass walls in big buildings and stare at computers. They are roosting chickens who have jobs, homes, cars, university tuition for their kids and vacations for taking 90% in fees from the people whose resources they are stealing.

Why are the currencies going down in value? Why can’t they trade, ship goods or make contracts like they use to? The U.S. dollar is only paper with some printing on it that needs stolen Indigenous resources to prop it up. The thieves have been putting up our land and resources, without our knowledge or permission, as collateral on another parasite, the stock exchange. We never surrendered our land or resources to anyone. This form of raising money from the public is fraud. This toilet paper system of currency went along until we Indigenous people started to resist. We are the caretakers, trustees, protectors and defenders of the earth. Our responsibility is to help achieve balance within the natural world. Our duty is to stop the depletion of our resources which is killing everything and everybody. We, the stewards of mother earth, have spoken.

I think that the Human Farmers are already in the process of reducing 'their' population of livestock/serfs/wageslaves. Not trying to insult anyone. I just think that that's how they themselves think of any 'thing' lower than them in their hierarchal system.

This present designer financial and economic crisis is good for them. They're using it to both consolidate their power, and reduce world population. They're thinking long term. And in order for them to keep and increase their dominion, they need to 'reduce' their livestock if they are to have somewhat viable ecosystems to perpetuate their priviledges. I'm quite sure they've got it all planned. Doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna go according to their plans though. There is always that 'human factor'.

Those who like intensity are gonna be well served...

C'est pas que ses chiffres étaient erronés, ils étaient corrects. Ce qu'il n'avait pas compris en ce temps-là, c'était qu'il y avait une révolution qui se préparait. Elle s'est appellée la "Révolution Verte".

Ils ont rapetissé les plants de blé et de riz. De cette façon ils ont pu tripler la production, étant donné que l'énergie ne se dispersait plus, ou moins, aux feuilles et aux tiges, mais se concentrait vers les graines. Et avec les fertilisants et l'eau, vu que le plant était plus court, il pouvait soutenir de plus gros grains.

Grâce à cela, aujourd'hui, 75% de l'alimentation humaine est fournie par le blé, le riz, et le maïs.
Et grâce à ça nous avons accrû la population humaine, et soutenu ce surplus de population. Depuis, la population a doublée, passant de 3 à maintenant 6 milliards de personnes.

L'élément caché dans tout ça était que toute cette croissance de production ne dépendait pas seulement des plants plus petits, mais sur l'énergie. Les combustibles fossiles. Mais en même temps nous utilisons des quantités énormes d'énergie pour labourer les champs avec des tracteurs, ainsi que pour transformer la nourriture, et pour la transporter.

Ce qui fait qu'en 1940, un fermier américain utilisait à peu près une calorie d'énergie fossile pour produire une calorie de nourriture. Aujourd'hui, ce même fermier utilise environ dix calories d'énergie fossile pour faire une calorie de nourriture.

Ce qui veut dire que les combustibles fossiles font partie intégrante de notre approvisionnement en nourriture. Nous avons remis à plus tard la catastrophe. Nous n'avons pas colonisé de nouvelles terres arables, nous avons colonisés de nouveaux champs pétrolifères et de nouveaux plans d'eau pour faire de l'irrigation.

On sait qu'une seule saison à produire une mono-culture annuelle telle que le maïs détruit jusqu'à 2000 ans de ce que cet écosystème a mis à produire en terre arable. La terre arable est débordante de vie. Ça dépasse notre imagination. Dans seulement une cuillère à table de terre arable il y a au delà d'un million d'organismes vivants.

La terre arable - dans un écosystème naturel - est un réseau de polycultures vivaces, formé d'innombrables racines et autres organismes vivants. C'est la base de la vie terrestre. Donc, ce qu'on fait en agriculture c'est qu'on prend un écosystème, soit une forêt, une plaine, une savane, ou autre, et on la 'nettoie', la débarrasse, idéalement, de toutes les autres formes de vie, et ce, jusqu'aux bactéries. Ensuite, l'homo civilitus sème la ou les quelques plants qui lui sont 'utiles'. Tout ça crée une surabondance de ces plantes, et généralement aussi une surabondance d'humains, ainsi qu'un faux sentiment de sécurité, car tout ça ne peut évidemment qu'être temporaire. Cette culture est écocidaire.

L'agriculture est en fait une extermination massive d'espèces. Et en même temps c'est une culture de surpopulation. C'est un envahisseur, un occupant. C'est le symbole par excellence, et la base même de cette civilisation, cet empire, ce 'Trou noir de cul ture' qui est en train de siphoner Toutes vies sur la planète.

Nous habitons tous à Namagwtôntegw (Lac Megantic), ou aux alentours. Et ce que nous avons entre autres en commun depuis quelque temps, c'est de chanter autour d'un Pakholigan (tambour).

Il y a environ un mois et demi, je disais tout bonnement à une nouvelle amie - Lison - que je pensais à faire quelque chose avec les jeunes. Et une des rares choses que je peux partager avec eux est le Pakholigan et les Lintowôganal (chants). Lison m'avait répondu du tac au tac, "si tu fais ça il va y avoir pas mal de jeunes qui vont embarquer!". "Tu penses vraiment?", que je lui dis. "Ah oui! tu peux en être sûr". "Ah ben", que j'ai pensé, avec la face en point d'interrogation.

L'idée a fait son chemin jusqu'aux oreilles d' une autre nouvelle et chère amie - Jo -, qui elle, avait déjà par le passé organisé bien des activités pour les jeunes - et les moins jeunes - chez elle. Elle m'a donc appellé un soir, peu de temps après que j'en aie parlé comme ça. Et elle m'a fait une proposition que je n'ai pas pu refuser. C'est-à-dire qu'elle m'offrait de nous rassembler chez elle pour pratiquer et former ce groupe. J'habite dans un apart, et je doute que les voisins apprécieraient le son puissant du gros Pakholigan communautaire...

Aussi, ce qui est drôle c'est que le groupe n'était même pas encore formé, que déjà nous avions deux engagements. Le premier aura lieu dans le cadre du Spectacle Contes & Musique Intergénération, le 11 février prochain, à l'auditorium de Megantic. Nous sommes justement allés pratiquer sur place cet après-midi. Le deuxième se fera dans une classe - ou gymnase - d'une des écoles primaires de Megantic. Il semble que d'autres présentations soient déjà en préparation. Les jeunes s'amusent. Et c'est très bon pour leur épanouissement, et confiance, et ainsi de suite...

Axel, lui est le caméraman attitré de cette soirée, et lui aussi a pratiqué aujourd'hui...à la caméra. Il semble beaucoup aimer ça.

Les femmes du groupe leur ont concocté de beaux chandails, que les jeunes adorent.

Oh! En passant, le spectacle du 11 février à l'auditorium sera gratuit. Donc si vous passez par ici,
venez faire un tour. Et venez jaser avec nous!

Ignorance is the primary mechanism of control used by the Invader. By erasing our Memory as a People, the Occupier seeks to control us. The Invader has constantly and consistently tried to erase us as a People. He sensed our innate Power is in our memory. They therefore incarcerate us, and systematically enslave us to a cyclic trauma meant to break our will to be Lakota. Through their “social” programs, schooling, and system of perpetual incarceration, the Invader feels assured that he is committed to “warring” on the problem. The Occupier can only relate through the making of war. The Lakota have no word for war or for warrior.

The Invader is so removed from his own memory of a People that he assumes our Memory is forgettable also. Yet, even as the Occupier presses forward, he is beginning to understand it is not so. We as Lakota People are unable to forget our Memory. In fact, our Memory is awakening now just as the Invader’s is also.

Ever google “red hair Neanderthal’? The results may surprise you. I fully believe in the cause and effect relationships of all things. As I say time and again, it is all about relations. As I sit this morning, listening to the Winged Nations outside my window sing their Morning Songs, I lament the coming noise of the day. The Invader will rouse, awaken and begin making clamor. There is no place for the sweet song of the Phoebe and the quick chirp of the Cardinal, but here and now, right before first light.

I cherish the Morning for these times with my Relatives. We put food out for our Kin so they know we respect them, and they come and sit with us. As I am writing, one of the first Squirrels of the morning peeked in the window. He is the big guy with the missing ear. He is eating Sunflower seeds now, no more than 3 feet away from me. I hear the Crows flying over, en masse, on their way from I do not know where, but I bet they go to the River in the morning.

I cherish this. I value it. It caused me to think this morning, about value systems. How many value systems are there? Is it capitalism, socialism, and barter? Is it fiat money and currency backed by gold? What are the value systems of the world? How many are there?

I realize there are but two: The imposing, overbearing, overwhelming, and raping value system I call “The Perceived Value System” and the friendly, related, natural value system I call “The Intrinsic Value System”.

The Intrinsic Value System can exist even when surrounded by perpetuators of The Perceived Value System, but The Perceived Value System spends its energy and time defeating The Intrinsic Value System. It must, for it is not a viable entity unless belief, hope, and change are pushed ahead of knowing, understanding, and relating. The Perceived Value System is based upon illusion, a perception. It is only real because it is forced to be perceived as real. The Perceived Value System must constantly assert itself or Nature will make things healthy. The Intrinsic Value System would flourish.

The Perceived Value System is what we know as wasi icun, fat-taking, taking a disrelated part of something or someone without respecting or relating. The wasicu creates systems which are antithetical to health and balance. It actually angers them when they see health and balance, and they feel they must attack. It is because not being able to relate and respect causes a retardation.

Every wasicu system is a Rube Goldberg contraption, always close to failure, always ready for the wheels to come off, only ignorance keeps the fodder on board. Yes, the wasicu systems absolutely rely and count on perpetuated ignorance. Only through ignorance can we be talked out of our natural Relations and Respect.

The Intrinsic Value Systems are inherent, intrinsic. They are our Original Instructions. They cause us to have empathy, kindness, respect, and we begin to see and understand the utter Relatedness of all. Our Original Instructions cuts through the shackles of perpetuated ignorance. One can hear the song of Lakol Wicohanki everywhere. Lakol Wicohanki sings, like the soft, constant, and sweet song of the Phoebe bird that I can yet hear this morning through the growing traffic noise of the fat-takers. Think on this awhile. It is true. Hecetuwelo.

Me, I come from Owoju and Hunkpapa People, I used to think we were Itazipco, but I see where the ones I thought Itazipco, came down from Sitting Bull’s People and were Hunkpapa. We have been rendered seemingly impotent by ignorance. We have been made ignorant of the most simple things. Ignorant of the most simple Relationships. How did this happen?

Here I want to share what we call an Ehanni Story. It is a story which is to show a Lakota how to think things through and understand the process of Relating:

There was a day Iktomi was out and about. He came upon the sleeping Being known as “Eya”, or, “Mouth”, the Great Eater. It seems Eya’s way is to consume all, consume all Nations. Iktomi knew this, and being curious as he is, he went close to Eya as he slept. As Eya breathed deeply in his slumber, Iktomi could here Lakota being spoken somewhere in Eya’s belly. Turns out, Iktomi has great Affinity and Relatedness for the Oyate, so he got his stone-bladed knife and enticed Eya to in turn swallow him too. Once swallowed, Iktomi tried to convince the Oyate that they were actually inside Eya, but the People would not believe Iktomi, the one who likes to trick everbody and refers to all as ‘little brother”. So, Iktomi, seeing no way to convince the People, drew his stone knife and stuck it deep into the ground. Eya’s belly split open and the Nations of the world spilled out of Eya’s guts…

Our first mandate should always be “That The People May Live”. Lately, though, it seems the first mandate it to “make the wasicu aware“, “teach the wasicu”, “show the wasicu”, “go be measured, or respected, or feared, or taught, or validated or given freedom, or whatever, by the wasicu”. There seems to be a high desire to be a “warrior” for the People. We have been so consumed by Eya’s digestive juices, we seem to not be able to tell where Eya begins and we end anymore. Our eyesight has even become one and the same as Eya’s.

Mitakiepi, That The People May Live means we must do the things we see needing done. We must speak our Language, We must learn our Lifeways. We must make Relations. We must be the examples and the evidence of the Power of Lakol Wicohan ki. There is no online petiton to the wasicu for this. No plea to the wasicu to recognize us. No cry for the wasicu to set us free, or to “make us sovereign”. No desire to admonish, teach, reach, or preach to the wasicu. We need not mirror the wasicu and desire the trappings of the Occupier.

No longer can we afford to be so digested by Eya that our very appetites mimic his.

Juste dans mon "entourage", autant "traditionnel" (i.e. réel) que virtuel, il y a de la matière grise, de la créativité et du coeur en masse. Pas que je m'exclus, mais je me considère très moyennement pourvu en ce qui concerne les deux premiers. Du coeur, je pense en avoir...probablement moyennement là aussi à bien y penser. Bon, j'y vais au pif pour "mesurer" tout ça c'est sûr. Et je sais que c'est plutôt con, mais bon j'suis comme ça...

Anyway, je regarde toute cette intelligence et cette créativité et je me dis que crisse il me semble qu'on a en masse de tout ce qu'il faut...et pourtant on est en train de laisser la Terre et Tous ses habitants se faire massacrer et exterminer, nous y compris bien sûr!

Sur ce blog j'affiche régulièrement des vidéos, articles, billets, et ainsi de suite avec lesquels j'essaie de montrer cette réalité. Je donne peut-être l'impression d'être quelqu'un de "négatif", pessimiste, etc. et pourtant...Si vraiment j'étais négatif et pessimiste, je me crisserais une balle dans la tête, après bien sûr en avoir crisser quelques unes dans celle de quelques grands responsables de ce gâchis horrible. Découragé, déprimé, même dépressif, je l'ai déjà été, et ce à cause de cette "culture-de-violence-très-bien-organisée", mais plus aujourd'hui, et ce depuis un bon bout'. J'ai trouvé plaisir à combattre, même si les chances de gagner sont infiniment petites. Comme je l'ai déjà écrit sur ce blog: je ne ferai pas la job sale - de me crisser une balle dans la tête, par exemple - à "leur" place, pour qu'ils puissent s'en laver les mains. J'ai l'intention de les combattre jusqu'au bout, jusqu'à mon dernier souffle.

Crazy Horse, Tecumseh, Sitting Bull, et les autres millions d'indigènes de partout à travers la planète (nos ancêtres, à tous en fait) et depuis l'émergence de cette culture omnicidaire n'ont pas combattu à mort cette omnicidivilisation pour que leurs descendants en viennent à l'adopter, l'intégrer, la métaboliser au point de croire en sa "supériorité grandiose", ni en son inévitabilité.

By pumping our fists as “activists” “revolutionaries” “radicals” etc., we simply accept our place at the footstool of our master, the Invader.

We must quit looking for a backdoor into the Master’s house through the easy routes of “activism” and inclusion. We should not be trying to find a way into Eya’s Belly, rather, a way out. The only route home is through the respective Lifeway of your specific Nation. It is up to you as an Indigenous Person to learn your Voice and Identity as an Indigenous Person.

Are Civilizations inherently destructive ?

I'd say that if a civilization implies urbanization and hierarchy, then it IS inherently destructive.These two characteristics alone, I think, contain the potential for destruction and self-destruction. I think that urbanization and hierarchy are kinds of man made machines, systems which create artificial ways of living that dull the peoples' natural predispositions to live in harmony with themselves and their "ecosystems".

The very idea of superiority over other life forms, human or other, is destructive.
And to settle permanently in a urban way, inevitably destroys the "ecosystem" and its parasite – the people.

It's my opinion anyway.

As we progress deeper into the cold and distress of Winter, we often wonder if it will be warm ever again. We ask ourselves if the cold and struggle are here to stay. An eye for an eye! A tooth for a tooth! This is primitive barbarity. The Israelis claim if they kill enough Palestinians, Hamas will stop sending in rockets. Conveniently overlooked is the fact that Israelis have built a wall around Gaza to control every Palestinian and everything that comes in and out of the ghetto to deliberately force the people into desperation. Also forgotten is that parts of the new smart bomb, GBU 39, designed for urban warfare, is made in Canadian facilities with the help of government tax breaks and Canada Pension Plan investments. This is obscene!
Gaza is occupied Palestinian territory. The Israelis and Americans toppled the democratically elected Hamas government because it couldn’t control them. The war is being waged on civilians who have no arms nor anywhere to hide. How noble is it for heavily armed Israelis to shoot fish in a rain barrel? The Palestinians have a right to live. They can only lob their homemade rockets into Israel. The Israelis attack them with illegal weapons. All weapons are illegal. Manufacturers should be prosecuted. The weapons collected and buried.
The United Nations is looking more like a bogus organization that serves the interests of a handful of war mongers who are trying to profit by setting up a New World Order. This is where the bankers and war mongers are the bosses and we are supposed to be their slaves. We fear the UN is setting up an “international department of Indian affairs” to control all indigenous peoples and resources worldwide.
Obviously the U.S. cannot broker the peace agreement when they are supporting Israel’s attack and supplying the weapons. We Indigenous went through the same plot. To stop the invading Europeans from killing us all off, we were forced to give up our possessions and territories. We resisted. 115 million of our people died in the biggest holocaust in all humanity. The survivors had to live in concentration camps called “reserves”. Today the Israelis and their backers are carrying out the same sequence of events in the Middle East. The UN, US, Canada and Europe are part of this.
The majority of the people in the world are appalled by Israel’s atrocities. They have killed over 500, mostly civilians. Over 2000 have been cruelly injured by illegal weapons made from depleted uranium and phosphorous. Palestinians have reached out to their Arab brothers and sisters whose governments are controlled by the West. Iran could be nuked by the U.S. if they helped their Palestinian family. We know how hard it is to unify. The colonists constantly work at dividing us. We too were starved and abused so they could grab our territories and wreak environmental havoc.
Just follow the “blood money”. Canada helps craft and support this cynical conspiracy. 10% of income tax goes to the military. The Canada Pension Plan contributions are invested in Carlyle Group and such weapons makers as NG [Northrop Grundman], L3Com, BAESystems, Bombardier, Raytheon, DRS Technologies, Boeing and many more. How many people get their pay check directly or indirectly from the military industry?
Mineral resources to make these deadly bombs and destroy the world are being stolen from our territories that have been left polluted in the process. We constantly object and are threatened and subjected to impoverishment. Our social programs, health care, education and infra structure are cut back or stopped altogether to shut us up. For example, the dissidents of the Algonquins of Barriere Lake Quebec have moved out of their communities and into the bush. They are unwanted because they are trying to stop deforestation, demineralization and water diversion of their territory. The guys trying to control our territories are finding the biggest obstacles are the sovereign legal resistance of the Indigenous people. A huge intelligence network has been set up to undermine and control our people and put out misinformation to us and about us to the public.
Survival is natural. To murder babies, women, men and elders is not natural. The Palestinians are struggling to survive. Those who follow this natural instinct are labeled “terrorist”. In fact we are defenders of our people, land, nation, very existence and Mother Earth. Every living creature has a right to carry out the natural instinct for self-preservation. Creation put that in us.
The war mongers tell us we have no right to self preservation. The Palestinians are being forced to live under the apartheid “Indian Act” system of Gaza which is being rammed down their throats. The same apartheid system was imposed on us and continues here. They pulled out papers on us. What are these papers? Why does their paper have more authority than human rights and our lives? Is it because they have a big gun and can constantly threaten us? This is thuggery!
The idea that peace can be bought at the end of a gun has been proven false time after time. Fanaticism has never solved anything. Truly impartial people must be found to form a body that can broker a true peace. Peace will come if people learn how to stop being greedy. There has to be a real willingness to assert equality and a voice for everybody. There will never be peace of mind on the terms of the war mongers and their cohorts that want control over us, our land, culture and resources.

The eyes are wiped with the softest skin of the deer so that we may see the issue clearly; the ear is cleared with an eagle feather so that we may listen and hear what is being said; and a glass of clear water is drunk to clear our throats so that only those words that have no jagged edges will come forth.
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that these few war mongers will look for methodologies that can bring true peace. They are making too much money. If we choose we can organize an economy so that people can be rich without obscene torture, death and famine. First the arms have to be buried.
True peace requires work. These war mongers have to be dealt with. The people have to stop listening to their propaganda. These greedy war mongers don’t have borders and no loyalty to anybody but their bank accounts and their lust for the power of life and death over us. This 3% of the population are multi national corporations, their governments, their military and their agents. They own the banks and try to control everything. They fix the economy to hold us hostage.
The Palestinians will not die quietly in the Gaza ghetto from starvation, thirst, bombs or anonymity.

1-Air raid targeted a group of militants in Slaah El Din street east of Gaza City. No one was reported to be wounded.

2-Air raid targeted an open space and agrictultral fields in Al Nusairat Refugee Camp.

3-Air raid targeted a house in the northern areas of Gaza.

4-Two civilians wounded as a missile targeted house of Al Maqosui family in Bait
lahia town.

5-Israeli gunboats targeted many areas in Gaza City, Khan Yonis and the mid areas.
Five Palestinians wounded in the bombings.

6-Open spaces hit in Al Nusairat Refugee Camp.

7-Around 50 tunnels destroyed in Rafah City.

8-Heavy artillery shelling in Al Zaytoun quarter east of Gaza City.

9-Many militants hit by Israeli airforce in Al Shaikh ridwan area.

10-One Palestinian killed in Bait Lahia town as Israeli

11-Israeli army threatens Popilation of Rafah living beside the Egyptian borders to leave their houses immediately. It is expected that Israel will bomb the tunnels
area and this would destroy the houses.

12-A ceasefire by Israeli and Palestinian militants for three hours to allow some
aids.

13- Four people from Kahlout family killed in Bait Lahia town. The killed ones were
trying to get some bread but a drone targeted them to death. They were in their car
driven by their dad to get some bread.

14-Around 80 trucks and vans of medical and food areas allowed by Israel into Gaza.
The trucks not enough at all as Gaza needs thousands of trucks to respond for
Humanitarian crisis. In the normal day Gaza was having 6-7 hundreds of all
commodities!

15-Around 450 thousand liters of Solar get into Gaza though Gaza crossings. Gaza
needs. Gaza needs over a million liter a day for the key power planet!

16-Air raid on Al Nafaq street mid of Gaza City.

COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE - Un ralliement pour chef algonquin incarcéré pour avoir défendu ses droits territoriaux : Madame Elizabeth May, le NPD, les synd

Territoire algonquin, le 7 janvier, 2009 – Un réseau important de partis politiques, de syndicats et de groupes de droits de l'homme et autochtones se rassembleront aujourd'hui pour soutenir les Algonquins du Lac Barrière qui réclament que le gouvernement du Canada respecte un accord historique ainsi que leur droit de choisir leur Chef et conseil coutumier.

Les manifestants se regrouperont mercredi le 7 janvier à midi devant les bureaux du Ministère des Affaires Indiennes et du Nord-Canada situés au coin des rues Wellington et Montcalm à Gatineau. Ils contestent l'incarcération de 2 mois du Chef coutumier Benjamin Nottaway qui s'était joint aux membres de sa communauté lors d'une manifestation pacifique pour défendre leurs droits à des territoires traditionnels dans le Nord-Ouest québécois. Des porte-paroles de la communauté se rendront ensuite à Montréal pour manifester jeudi devant les bureaux du Premier Ministre Jean Charest.

« Les Algonquins du lac Barrière ont fait preuve d'une patience exemplaire face à l'ingérence et aux tactiques dilatoires des deux gouvernements », a déclaré la chef du Parti Vert Elizabeth May. « Il est tout à fait scandaleux que le chef Nottaway ait pus passer Noël en prison pour désobéissance civile pour avoir demandé aux gouvernements de respecter leurs engagements, et ce, sans même que les médias y aient accordé la moindre attention et avec l'approbation silencieuse de nos gouvernements ».

Les Algonquins du Lac Barrière veulent que le gouvernement du Canada mette en vigueur l'accord trilatéral, un accord de développement durable et de paritarisme des ressources, applaudi par les Nations Unies et la Commission Royale sur les Peuples Autochtones signé en 1991. Le Canada s'est retiré de cet accord irrévocable en 2001.

Selon Charlie Angus, député pour le NPD « La communauté du Lac Barrière est une des plus défavorisées du Canada. Le MAINC s'est ingéré dans cette communauté, a nui aux négociations et s'est départi de leurs engagements. Le temps est maintenant propice au gouvernement de démontrer du leadership et d'épauler cette communauté dans la voie de la guérison ».

Depuis le 10 mars 2008, le gouvernement du Canada ne reconnaît plus le Chef coutumier intérimaire Benjamin Nottaway. Ceci a causé beaucoup d'incertitudes face au leadership lorsqu'on a reconnu des individus dont le Conseil des aînés maintiennent n'ont pas respecté le système coutumier de gouvernance utilisé par la communauté pour élire leurs représentants. Les membres de la communauté ont demandé au gouvernement fédéral de nommer un observateur pour superviser et ensuite respecter les résultats d'une nouvelle élection mais le gouvernement refuse toujours. Lorsque les membres ont occupé pacifiquement la route adjacente à la réserve aux mois d'octobre et de novembre, le gouvernement du Canada demeurait silencieux pendant que le gouvernement du Québec envoyait son unité anti-émeute pour lancer des gaz lacrymogènes dans une foule où se trouvaient des gens de tous les âges et où on a procédé à plusieurs arrestations.

« C'est un autre exemple de la façon dont le gouvernement fédéral et provincial collaborent pour criminaliser un Chef qui demande que ces deux gouvernements respectent leurs accords concernant le paritarisme du territoire et le partage des ressources financières », dit M. Norman Young, le Grand Chef du Secrétariat de la Nation Algonquine, conseil tribal des ALB qui reconnaît et travaille avec Benjamin Nottaway et son conseil.

Hier, la Cour d'Appel fédérale contredisait les plaidoiries des avocats du MAINC, rendant un jugement en faveur du Conseil des aînés du Lac Barrière qui poursuivront maintenant avec leur motion afin de revoir la décision du MAINC de ne pas reconnaître le Chef intérimaire Nottaway. Le jugement de la Cour sème le doute sur la légitimité de cette reconnaissance du gouvernement fédéral du « Ratt Council » et donne du poids à la position du Conseil des aînés que le MAINC a dérogé du système coutumier de gouvernance.

« Le gouvernement fédéral a causé assez de chagrin dans notre communauté; c'est le temps de respecter nos représentants coutumiers et de négocier la mise en œuvre des accords qui procureront notre avenir », dit Marlynn Poucachiche, porte-parole de la communauté et mère de cinq enfants qui fut sujette à une arrestation par la Sûreté du Québec lors d'un barrage routier.

« Nous croyons que les barrages routiers qui traversent les territoires des Premières Nations ne seront démantelés que lorsque le gouvernement n'empêchera plus leur autodétermination et leur autonomie et que les droits territoriaux soient réglés », affirme Madame Patty Ducharme, la vice-présidente nationale de l'Alliance de la Fonction Publique du Canada.

Ottawa, January 7, 2009/ - A broad network of political parties, unions, human rights and Indigenous groups will rally today to support the Algonquins of Barriere Lake, demanding that the Government of Canada respect a landmark agreement and Barriere Lake's right to decide who serves as their Customary Chief and Council.

The groups will hold a rally on January 7 at noon in front of the Headquarters of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, in support of Customary Chief Benjamin Nottaway, jailed for two months for joining community members while they peacefully asserted land rights to Barriere Lake's traditional territories in Western Quebec. Community spokespeople will then travel to Montreal for a demonstration on Thursday in front of Premier Jean Charest's office.

"The Algonquin of Barriere Lake have shown extraordinary patience in the face of governmental interference and foot-dragging," said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party. "It is a scandal that Chief Nottaway spent Christmas in jail for peaceful civil disobedience to demand governments live up to their responsibilities, with barely a murmur of notice from the media and with stony silence from our government."

Barriere Lake wants Canada to uphold signed agreements, dating back to the 1991 Trilateral Agreement, a groundbreaking sustainable development and resource co-management agreement praised by the United Nations and the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. Canada pulled out of the binding agreement in 2001.

"Barriere Lake is one of the most impoverished communities in Canada. Indian Affairs has meddled in this community, undermined land negotiations and walked away on signed agreements," said NDP Parliamentarian Charlie Angus. "It's time the government showed some leadership and helped this community on the path to healing."

The Government of Canada stopped recognizing Acting Customary Chief Benjamin Nottaway on March 10, 2008, and caused great leadership uncertainty by recognizing individuals whom Barriere Lake's Elder's Council says did not follow their Customary Governance Code, which the community uses to select their leadership. Community members have demanded that the federal government appoint an observer to witness and abide by the results of a new leadership selection, but the government of Canada has to date refused. When families from the community peacefully protested on a highway outside their reserve in October and November, the government of Canada remained silent while the Quebec government sent in riot police, which tear-gassed people of all ages and made numerous arrests.

"This is another example of the federal and provincial governments collaborating with each other to criminalize a Chief who has demanded that both orders of government honour signed agreements regarding co-management of land and resource revenue sharing," said Grand Chief Norman Young of the Algonquin Nation Secretariat, Barriere Lake's Tribal Council, which continues to recognize and work with Benjamin Nottaway and his Council.

On Tuesday, the Federal Court of Appeal contradicted the arguments of lawyers for the Department Indian Affairs, ruling in favour of the Barriere Lake's Elder's Council, who will now proceed with their motion to review Indian Affairs' decision to stop recognizing Acting Chief Nottaway. The Court decision casts doubt on the legitimacy of Canada's recognition of the "Ratt Council" and gives weight to the Elder's Council position that Indian Affairs violated their Customary Governance Code.

"The federal government has caused enough suffering in our community. It is time that they respect our leadership customs and negotiate the implementation of agreements that will secure our future," said Marlynn Poucachiche, a community spokesperson and mother of five who was targeted for arrest by the Quebec police after participating in the peaceful blockade.

"We believe the roadblocks erected on highways that pass through First Nations' traditional territories will come down when government roadblocks to self-determination, self-government and land entitlements are eliminated," said National Vice-President Patty Ducharme of the Public Service Alliance of Canada.

An anthropocentric view?

"...I heard a James Lovelock lecture to the Royal Society in 2007, and was reminded of his Gaia idea, that the earth is a self-regulating system and thus fulfills an important part of the definition of being "alive" and acting like an organism. I know this is anthropocentric (projecting from how humans, or at least mammals, operate), but when we have an illness, an infection, we get a fever. This warming isn't "caused" by the infection, it is the response of our body, a "calculated" changing of the environment (our body) so that it is inhospitable to the bacteria or virus or whatever is infecting us. The goal is to reduce the population of the bacteria back to normal (healthy) levels, or to eradicate it if it's not a normal member of the system.

Seems a LOT like what the earth is doing right now to deal with a sudden explosion of population and the associated toxic by-product of the activity of that population of---well, the human "bacteria." Make the environment inhospitable to human life. Hmmmmm. I take comfort in the realization that often, our "infections" or illnesses aren't the result of a totally foreign organism "attacking us," but are often simply an imbalance in the population of those bacteria that normally live with us and in us in healthy relationship. Notice that from the bacteria's perspective, the experience of the body's fever response is (hopefully) devastating, and the result is--massive dieoff. It's a great analogy, actually. What actually causes us to sicken and die when suffering from a bacterial infection? Well, the natural "waste product" of the bacteria ends up being toxic to our bodies in large quantities (or in small quantities if it's from a dangerous bacteria not normally present in our bodies, like anthrax).

Kind of like the massive polluting and destructive "waste by-product" that is toxic to the "body of the earth" and it's systems. Civilization is basically a massive infection arising from an imbalance in the population of a "normally" healthy part of the "internal flora" of the earth--us. Don't know how you'd prove it, though. Just proof by analogy, but it's a strong match."

But sometimes I feel like I'm in a reality, where we don't remember who we are. So
therefore we don't know who we are. We speak a language we don't understand. Because of this we don't know where we are.

And I think that we live in a technologic reality; that these conditions are part of a
mining process. I'm going to call it a mining process. And there is a reason we are in this situation. It's got to do with being fed upon by a system. So I want to go to who we are.

We are the human beings. That's very important. We all know to say the words, we know the terms, and I know we know the terms because they taught them to us, they programmed them into us: the words, ‘human beings'. Our relationship to reality is in that definition. The DNA of the human, the bone, flesh and blood of the human, is literally made up of the metals, minerals and liquids of the earth. So we are parts of the earth.

We are shapes of the earth. We are forms of the earth. This is the form that we are. All of the things of the earth have the same DNA as the human does. Everything is made up of the metals, minerals and liquids of the earth. But the shape is just different. The purpose is different. We have being. That is our essence. That is our spirit. And all of the things of the earth have the same DNA as the human has, so all things of the earth have being, spirit.

Our relationship to power and to reality is in that understanding of who we are. We are
forms of the earth. And that's reality. Nothing will ever change that reality. What has
changed is our perceptional relationship to reality. And what has happened to us through the millennium and through this whole technologic, civilized perception of reality, what has happened to the human being is that, to me, it is like a disease in one way. It's like this thing that kind of spreads. And as a disease to the spirit of people it spreads to their perception of reality. So in one way it's kind of like that, a possession.

But in another way, it's almost like a mechanical thing, this mining process that takes
place. It's almost like this thing we call technologic civilization: this thing that is predatory upon our lives. Anyone ever feel that there is something missing from their life? Like purpose or understanding or self worth or whatever the understanding is?

HOPE, OR THE ART OF BEING POWERLESS

The most common words I hear spoken by any environmentalists anywhere are, We’re fucked. Most of these environmentalists are fighting desperately, using whatever tools they have—or rather whatever legal tools they have, which means whatever tools those in power grant them the right to use, which means whatever tools will be ultimately ineffective—to try to protect some piece of ground, to try to stop the manufacture or release of poisons, to try to stop civilized humans from tormenting some group of plants or animals. Sometimes they’re reduced to trying to protect just one tree.

Here’s how John Osborn, an extraordinary activist and friend, sums up his reasons for doing the work: “As things become increasingly chaotic, I want to make sure some doors remain open. If grizzly bears are still alive in twenty, thirty, and forty years, they may still be alive in fifty. If they’re gone in twenty, they’ll be gone forever.”

But no matter what environmentalists do, our best efforts are insufficient. We’re losing badly, on every front. Those in power are hell-bent on destroying the planet, and most people don’t care.

Frankly, I don’t have much hope. But I think that’s a good thing. Hope is what keeps us chained to the system, the conglomerate of people and ideas and ideals that is causing the destruction of the Earth.

To start, there is the false hope that suddenly somehow the system may inexplicably change. Or technology will save us. Or the Great Mother. Or beings from Alpha Centauri. Or Jesus Christ. Or Santa Claus. All of these false hopes lead to inaction, or at least to ineffectiveness. One reason my mother stayed with my abusive father was that there were no battered women’s shelters in the ‘50s and ‘60s, but another was her false hope that he would change. False hopes bind us to unlivable situations, and blind us to real possibilities.

Does anyone really believe that Weyerhaeuser is going to stop deforesting because we ask nicely? Does anyone really believe that Monsanto will stop Monsantoing because we ask nicely? If only we get a Democrat in the White House, things will be okay. If only we pass this or that piece of legislation, things will be okay. If only we defeat this or that piece of legislation, things will be okay. Nonsense. Things will not be okay. They are already not okay, and they’re getting worse. Rapidly.

But it isn’t only false hopes that keep those who go along enchained. It is hope itself. Hope, we are told, is our beacon in the dark. It is our light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. It is the beam of light that makes its way into our prison cells. It is our reason for persevering, our protection against despair (which must be avoided at all costs). How can we continue if we do not have hope?

We’ve all been taught that hope in some future condition—like hope in some future heaven—is and must be our refuge in current sorrow. I’m sure you remember the story of Pandora. She was given a tightly sealed box and was told never to open it. But, being curious, she did, and out flew plagues, sorrow, and mischief, probably not in that order. Too late she clamped down the lid. Only one thing remained in the box: hope. Hope, the story goes, was the only good the casket held among many evils, and it remains to this day mankind’s sole comfort in misfortune. No mention here of action being a comfort in misfortune, or of actually doing something to alleviate or eliminate one’s misfortune.

The more I understand hope, the more I realize that all along it deserved to be in the box with the plagues, sorrow, and mischief; that it serves the needs of those in power as surely as belief in a distant heaven; that hope is really nothing more than a secular way of keeping us in line.

INTENTION VERSUS HOPE

Hope is, in fact, a curse, a bane. I say this not only because of the lovely Buddhist saying “Hope and fear chase each other’s tails,” not only because hope leads us away from the present, away from who and where we are right now and toward some imaginary future state. I say this because of what hope is.

More or less all of us yammer on more or less endlessly about hope. You wouldn’t believe—or maybe you would—how many magazine editors have asked me to write about the apocalypse, then enjoined me to leave readers with a sense of hope. But what, precisely, is hope? At a talk I gave last spring, someone asked me to define it. I turned the question back on the audience, and here’s the definition we all came up with: hope is a longing for a future condition over which you have no agency; it means you are essentially powerless.

I’m not, for example, going to say I hope I eat something tomorrow. I just will. I don’t hope I take another breath right now, nor that I finish writing this sentence. I just do them. On the other hand, I do hope that the next time I get on a plane, it doesn’t crash. To hope for some result means you have given up any agency concerning it. Many people say they hope the dominant culture stops destroying the world. By saying that, they’ve assumed that the destruction will continue, at least in the short term, and they’ve stepped away from their own ability to participate in stopping it.

I do not hope coho salmon survive. I will do whatever it takes to make sure the dominant culture doesn’t drive them extinct. If coho want to leave us because they don’t like how they’re being treated—and who could blame them?—I will say goodbye, and I will miss them, but if they do not want to leave, I will not allow civilization to kill them off.

When we realize the degree of agency we actually do have, we no longer have to “hope” at all. We simply do the work. We make sure salmon survive. We make sure prairie dogs survive. We make sure grizzlies survive. We do whatever it takes.

IF NOTHING ELSE, FIGHT FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T!

When we stop hoping for external assistance, when we stop hoping that the awful situation we’re in will somehow resolve itself, when we stop hoping the situation will somehow not get worse, then we are finally free—truly free—to honestly start working to resolve it. I would say that when hope dies, action begins.
PEOPLE SOMETIMES ASK ME, “If things are so bad, why don’t you just kill yourself?” The answer is that life is really, really good. I am a complex enough being that I can hold in my heart the understanding that we are really, really fucked, and at the same time that life is really, really good. I am full of rage, sorrow, joy, love, hate, despair, happiness, satisfaction, dissatisfaction, and a thousand other feelings. We are really fucked. Life is still really good.

Many people are afraid to feel despair. They fear that if they allow themselves to perceive how desperate our situation really is, they must then be perpetually miserable. They forget that it is possible to feel many things at once. They also forget that despair is an entirely appropriate response to a desperate situation. Many people probably also fear that if they allow themselves to perceive how desperate things are, they may be forced to do something about it.

Another question people sometimes ask me is, “If things are so bad, why don’t you just party?” Well, the first answer is that I don’t really like to party. The second is that I’m already having a great deal of fun. I love my life. I love life. This is true for most activists I know. We are doing what we love, fighting for what (and whom) we love.

I have no patience for those who use our desperate situation as an excuse for inaction. I’ve learned that if you deprive most of these people of that particular excuse they just find another, then another, then another. The use of this excuse to justify inaction—the use of any excuse to justify inaction—reveals nothing more nor less than an incapacity to love.

At one of my recent talks someone stood up during the Q and A and announced that the only reason people ever become activists is to feel better about themselves. Effectiveness really doesn’t matter, he said, and it’s egotistical to think it does.

I told him I disagreed.

Doesn’t activism make you feel good? he asked.

Of course, I said, but that’s not why I do it. If I only want to feel good, I can just masturbate. But I want to accomplish something in the real world.

Why?

Because I’m in love. With salmon, with trees outside my window, with baby lampreys living in sandy streambottoms, with slender salamanders crawling through the duff. And if you love, you act to defend your beloved. Of course results matter to you, but they don’t determine whether or not you make the effort. You don’t simply hope your beloved survives and thrives. You do what it takes. If my love doesn’t cause me to protect those I love, it’s not love.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GIVING UP ON HOPE

A WONDERFUL THING happens when you give up on hope, which is that you realize you never needed it in the first place. You realize that giving up on hope didn’t kill you. It didn’t even make you less effective. In fact it made you more effective, because you ceased relying on someone or something else to solve your problems—you ceased hoping your problems would somehow get solved through the magical assistance of God, the Great Mother, the Sierra Club, valiant tree-sitters, brave salmon, or even the Earth itself—and you just began doing whatever it takes to solve those problems yourself.

When you give up on hope, something even better happens than it not killing you, which is that in some sense it does kill you. You die. And there’s a wonderful thing about being dead, which is that they—those in power—cannot really touch you anymore. Not through promises, not through threats, not through violence itself. Once you’re dead in this way, you can still sing, you can still dance, you can still make love, you can still fight like hell—you can still live because you are still alive, more alive in fact than ever before. You come to realize that when hope died, the you who died with the hope was not you, but was the you who depended on those who exploit you, the you who believed that those who exploit you will somehow stop on their own, the you who believed in the mythologies propagated by those who exploit you in order to facilitate that exploitation. The socially constructed you died. The civilized you died. The manufactured, fabricated, stamped, molded you died. The victim died.

And who is left when that you dies? You are left. Animal you. Naked you. Vulnerable (and invulnerable) you. Mortal you. Survivor you. The you who thinks not what the culture taught you to think but what you think. The you who feels not what the culture taught you to feel but what you feel. The you who is not who the culture taught you to be but who you are. The you who can say yes, the you who can say no. The you who is a part of the land where you live. The you who will fight (or not) to defend your family. The you who will fight (or not) to defend those you love. The you who will fight (or not) to defend the land upon which your life and the lives of those you love depends. The you whose morality is not based on what you have been taught by the culture that is killing the planet, killing you, but on your own animal feelings of love and connection to your family, your friends, your landbase—not to your family as self-identified civilized beings but as animals who require a landbase, animals who are being killed by chemicals, animals who have been formed and deformed to fit the needs of the culture.

When you give up on hope—when you are dead in this way, and by so being are really alive—you make yourself no longer vulnerable to the cooption of rationality and fear that Nazis inflicted on Jews and others, that abusers like my father inflict on their victims, that the dominant culture inflicts on all of us. Or is it rather the case that these exploiters frame physical, social, and emotional circumstances such that victims perceive themselves as having no choice but to inflict this cooption on themselves?

But when you give up on hope, this exploiter/victim relationship is broken. You become like the Jews who participated in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

When you give up on hope, you turn away from fear.

And when you quit relying on hope, and instead begin to protect the people, things, and places you love, you become very dangerous indeed to those in power.
In case you’re wondering, that’s a very good thing.

About twenty years ago, "God" was on my mind alot. I really started to be...well, almost obsessed (okay, obsessed!) about the subject after reading a few books on accupuncture and the CHI (or Qi, or KI), and after I read about, and myself had, a couple of "hard-to-explain" experiences, and so on...

As far as I can remember, I've been fascinated by what some people could do, either after they had somewhat "mastered" a certain discipline, such as for example: martial arts, healing, telepathy, etc., or in other cases, when some "ordinary" people would accomplish acts usually considered humanly impossible or close to imposssible.

The Chi, God...Then later on, the Tao, Kije Manito...Were they one and the same? I needed to understand. I nearly went nuts trying to figure these things out. Actually, I'm sure some people did think I was nuts, ha!

Later on, I came to like the "no-definition" definition, such as is implied in, "Kije Manito", which can apparently be translated to something like, "Great Mystery". I think that the universe is a "little" too complex and vast for a human intellect to grasp in its entirety.

Now, I think that the subject of God/Creator/Kije Manito is more of a mind trap than anything else. I find it can too easily, and perhaps inescapably become a mere concept...of the mind, of course. And I mean even the so-called "scientifically proven" facts...which often have a habit of being...later, "proven" to have another explanation...then, later on...proven, again, to have another explanation.

So, now, I try to avoid playing with abstract "god concepts". I figure I can only know very little in comparison to the "size" and complexity of the universe. And, the way I see it, the little I do know - if it ain't actually wrong - is certainly only the tip of the infinite (infinity, now there's another tricky concept) colossal universal iceberg.

Anyone else feel like sharing their thoughts and/or experiences on the subject?

Aki/Earth has apparently developed antibodies tough and fierce enough to counter the SPCAL syndrome. It is a pathology that affects Aki via many members of one of her species/expressions, Homo Sapiens. At least, this is what some of these hominids have recently
observed and demonstrated.

This SPCAL (Subjugation, Perversion, and Commodification of All Life), or "SCALP" syndrome as some comics like to call it - or Dominomnivivusideapathos as it is officially called - has been found to be the central cause of the ongoing omnicide being perpetrated just about everywhere on the planet.

According to these observers, this pathology has infected and pushed many of these groups of
psychotic hominids into "creating" ecocidal, genocidal, and suicidal so called "cultures" or ideologies. This type of culture has a bad habit of making these psychopaths settle in one place and proliferate. After a while, their culture of mass extermination and overexploitation of the soil, plants, human and nonhuman animals, and so on (agriculture, overfishing, slavery, wageslavery, etc.) implodes, and is often "helped" by outsiders - generally indigenous communities - who, after being assaulted, exploited, and destroyed, are more than willing to see the psychopaths vanish.

The indigenous peoples of the planet, as well as all other life forms, have resisted this gangrenizing pathology, and still resist it. The difference that has been observed lately is an increase in the numbers of: ex-psychos who have found their true humanness again, and others who are in the process of recovering, of healing from "it". And it is thought and said that these "anti-civs" - ex-civilized, and indigenous - are, in fact, the "antibodies" which Aki has created in order to stop the "hypnomesticated" before they manage to complete the massive extermination of species that they've initiated some thousands of years ago.

These antibodies, according to the observers, are actually constantly building their strengths. And they are even disinfecting their kins, hence increasing their numbers. And this is also seemingly creating a "Snowball Effect".

There are a few specific types of these antibodies: One type specializes in attacking the ennemy in the psyches of "its" victims, thus helping some victims to rid themselves of the intruder. Another type specializes in rebuilding a sane social environment. While another one specifically attacks the tumors, and "its" capacity to proliferate.
